Prologue - A History in Legends

Prolouge

If one were to look through New York City, you'd find many empty buildings scattered throughout it. Buildings that have stood the test of time... something you couldn't say for the inhabitants. However, one building was erected in the city, and it's fate was set from the start. No person has ever lived in this building. No business has ever set up in it.

One might think it stands without purpose. However, this is not the case.

You see, to a normal person walking by, this building is nothing more than an apparent heap of centralize rubble. Condemned to fall within days. But to some, those who are chosen to see the true face of this building, this is the place where their wildest dreams come true. A portal to see a goddess, who lays at the foot of the steppe before heaven, who's only belief was that mortals should enjoy their time on Earth. Because of this, she created a building that serves as a portal to her small hut, and grants her guests a single wish. Of course, this is only to those who she deems needing of her power.

Of course, nothing is ever truly free.

The goddess's hut has two doors in it. One door always takes the person back to his or her own reality, free to live out their (sometimes new) lives. However, each wish comes at a price. Because, like all those who are able to call themselves "Gods" and "Goddesses", this goddess has a job as well: the creation and maintenance of dimensions. There are hundreds of dimensions at any given time, all of which are different, and most of which can maintain themselves. However, occasionally one will go out of balance, in which those who receive wishes are given the task of putting the world back into order. When the work is done, responsibility is removed from that person's shoulders, allowing them to return to their own world for good, with their wish staying with them forever.
